Our week began with bright mornings, and a bit chilly with a hard frost. However, this changed mid-way through the week as the weather turned nasty with torrential rain. The water temperature is currently sitting at 9 degrees. It’s been a mixed back here at the fishery with many catches taking place on the surface and on lures.
John Shand took home 1 blue using a cats whisker. Ann Marie Hodgson on a sporting ticket caught and released 1 rainbow on a Kate McLaren. Ian McLaren (St Ninians) also on a sporting ticket caught 4 before safely releasing them. He caught these using a yellow dancer. Mr McGowan (Armadale) had a great day at the fishery as he caught and released 5 fish on an Egg Peach. Mr Wheaver (Hardhield) caught 3 using a Kate McLaren and a Foam Daddy. Mr Boyd (Hardhield) also caught 3 trout using a walats it. Mr Addison (Salsbury) on a sporting ticket caught and released 6 trout using an Egg peach. Mr Snesdon (Salsbury) caught 1 rainbow on a Kate McLaren. J. McDonald (Bonnybridge) managed 2 blues on a yellow dancer. Jim McAllum (Brightons) was able to catch 2 on a C/R ticket using black and orange buzzers. John Currie (Camelon) took home 1 blue at 2lb 8oz using a Oky Doky. John Fleming (Shieldhill) managed 2 for 5lb 8oz using a Daiwl Bach. Alan McLaren (Stenhousemuir) took home 2 rainbows at 5lb 6oz using a wok nymph. Derick Leaper (Hallglen) also managed to take home 2 fish also using a wok nymph. Fraser McGilluary (Kirkintilloch) caught and released 2 trout fishing on a floating beetle. Billy McPherson (Falkirk) took home 2 blues at 5lb 2oz and also released 2. He was fishing on a Yellow Blob.

After a very wet start to the week the weather has improved with bright skies and a north westerly wind. The water temperature is currently down to 10 degrees. Ian Crawford (Denny) returned 2 blues fishing using a floating line and an Olyve Elk Hair emerger. Ross Martin (Bannockburn) returned 5 rainbows fishing on a cut throat cat. Davy MaGuinness (Larkhall) safely returned 9 rainbows on an intermediate line orange blob. Howard Penny (Cumbernauld) managed 6 fishing on a black shipmans and floating beetle. Eddie Hunt (Cumbernauld) weighed in 2 blues for 5lb 14oz fishing on a green nomad. Alan McLaren (Stenhousemuir) weighed in 1 rainbow for 3lb 8oz fishing on a muddler. Jim Ballantyne (Bonnybridge) weighed in 1 blue for 2lb 8oz on a cat’s whisker. Alan Haistie (Airdrie) returned 2 rainbows fishing using a Hopper. Jim Brown (Bannockburn) weighed in 2 rainbows at 5lb 3oz fishing on a ginger palmer. John Fleming (Shieldhill) managed 2 for 5lb 8oz using a black and copper cruncher. We had the Fire brigade here on Friday for a club booking, they landed 20 fish however dropped or lost a lot more. 9th of October 2019

It’s been a lovely dry start to the week with the first frost of the year and the nights are now drawing in quickly. However, plenty of fish being caught with the water temperature now down to 12 degrees. Brian Leadbetter (Slamannan) took home 2 blues for 5lb 4oz on a hot head damsel. Andrew Leadbetter (Slamannan) caught 1 Rainbow for 3lb while fishing on an Ally McCoist. Willy Carr (Cumbernauld) managed 5 rainbows fishing with a Griffiths Gnat. Jim Loudon (Milngavie) caught 1 blue for 3lb 7oz on a Damsel. Alan McLaren (Stenhousemuir) weighed in 1 rainbow for 4lb 8oz fishing on an orange blob. George Houston (Kincardine) weighed 1 rainbow for 4lb on Kate McLaren. Willy McAlister (Springboig) caught 2 fish for 4lb 8oz fishing on a hot head damsel. Pete Mogford (Dunfermline) took home 1 cracking blue 3lb 4oz on a buzzer. Alan Downie (Boness) on sporting ticket returned 2 safely on a foam beetle. Ian Donn (Bonnybridge) also returned 2 fish again on a foam beetle. Ben Kelly (Glasgow) returned 2 rainbows on squirmy worm. Eddie Hunt (Cumbernauld) weighed in 2 fish for 5lb 4oz fishing on an orange blob. Saturday the 5th of October was MMM Joinery Pairs competition. Overall winners were George Douglas and son with 15lb 1oz. Second place went to G. McCaw and N. Barron. Third place was P. Price and J. McRae. The Guys had a good day with a full game BBQ for lunch. 18th of September 2019

After a very wet and windy start to the week, the weather has settled well with the water temperature dropping to 14 degrees. The Lochan has proved its worth with some good catches from our anglers. Davey McGuinness (Larkhall) on a sporting ticket landed and safely returned 27 fish using an intermediate line with a size 10 orange blob. Billy Miller (Denny) returned 6 blues fishing with a size 16 parachute fly. Mark Love (Airdrie) returned 3 blues fishing with a floating line long leader and a size 10 ace of spades. John Gould (Bellshill) returned 5 rainbows using a size 16 orange shipmans again using floating lines. Ben Kelly (Glasgow) weighed in two blues for 6lb fishing on a cruncher. Alan Dowie (Grangemouth) landed 3 blues on size 16 Griffiths Gnat. Alan Smith (Cumbernauld) returned 2 blues fishing on Daddies. Callan Stewart (Denny) weighed in 2 blues for 5lb 12oz fishing on a black dancer. Geoff Appleton (Falkirk) returned 2 rainbows fishing on a black spider. Alan Meek (Cambuslang) returned 2 fishing with a size 16 Black Klinken hammer. Alex Morton (Whitburn) weighed in 3 fish for 8lb 4oz fishing on an orange nomad. From a cool blustery week to a really hot weekend made conditions a wee bit tricky, but the lochan still proved productive with various flies and lures doing the job for our anglers. Neil Bruce (Falkirk) on a c/r ticket landed and safely returned a cracking blue fishing on a daiwl bach. Jonathan Hood (Kirkcaldy) managed a couple of rainbows fishing on a size 26 spider. Robert Chalmers (Bannockburn) weighed in 1 blue for 2lb 10oz fishing on a daiwl bach. Rodger Gearie (Bonnybridge) fishing on a c/r ticket landed and returned 9 rainbows using an intermediate line with a size 10 yellow dancer. John Porter (Paisley) also on a c/r ticket managed to land 9 rainbows as well using floating lines and small size 18 black spider. Raymond Marshall weighed in two blues for 6lb 8oz using floating lines with a size 8 hot head damsel. John Armour (Paisley) landed 5 blues and 3 rainbows fishing on floating lines with a yellow owl emerger. Covenanter’s angler club managed 25 fish most caught on neon damsel. Cameron Cowan (Bannockburn) landed 2 blues fishing on an orange fritz. Derek Leaper (Hallglen) weighed in 1 blue for 3lb fishing on floating line and size 14 Kate McLaren. 21st Of August 2019

Again, the weather has been all over the place this week. Winds blustery from the west however the lochan has been fishing well with fish showing on the surface. Mixture of flys catching but most fish caught on the surface. The water temperature this week was 15 degrees. Wully Turnbull (Oakley) landed and returned 2 fishing on a black gnat size 16. Eck Mulhorlick (Oakley) caught 5 Rainbows on a Foam Daddy size 14. John Shand (Falkirk) fishing on intermediate line managed 2 rainbows fishing on an Ally McCoist. Jeof Appleton (Falkirk) landed 3 rainbows fishing on black ant buzzers. Alex Briggs (Bonnybridge) landed 2 rainbows fishing size 14 Humpy. John Fleming (Shieldhill) took home 1 blue and 1 rainbow. Fraser McGuiluary (Kirkintilloch) manged 2 rainbows on a size 18 buzzer and black Gnat. Archie Crockitt (Wishaw) landed 1 fishing a size 12 smokie. That’s it for this week. 14th of August 2019

It’s been a real mixed bag this week, despite some awful down pours and gale force winds the water temperature remained at 16 degrees throughout the week. Most fish this week were caught on small flies. David MaGuinness (Larkhall) landed 6 fishing on an intermediate line with a size 18 Kate McLaren. Willy Carr (Cumbernauld) on a sporting ticket landed and safely returned 4 blues on a black shipmans size 16. On floating lines, Andy Meichan (Nitshill) who was also on a sporting ticket landed and returned 3 rainbows fishing on a size 16 greenwells spider. Mark Campbell (Nitshill) also using a greenwells spider returned 2 rainbows. Eck Mulhorlick landed and returned 5 rainbows on a size 16 orange shipmans. Marshall Caulder (Broxburn) managed 4 rainbows fishing with a size 18 yellow owl emerdger. William Edgar (Dechmont) landed 2 blues also on a yellow owl emerdger. 7th of August 2019

We had a gentle south easterly breeze most of the week and some heavy down pours. The water temperature was 17 degrees and there was plenty of surface activity in the morning but as the sun came out the fish slowed down. However, we still had some great catches during the week. Fraser McNaughton (Bonnybridge) weighed in 2 fish for 6lb 8oz using a floating line with a size 16 Griffiths Gnat. Neil Bruce (Falkirk) landed and safely returned 2 rainbows on a c/r ticket using floating line with size 16 yellow owl buzzers. Willy Skinner (Falkirk) weighed in a nice blue for 2lb 8oz using intermediate line size 10 yellow dancer. David Skinner (Denny) had 2 rainbows for 5lb fishing with floating line size 10 Olyve Damsel. Gary Irvine (Camelon) Fishing c/r landed a cracking rainbow for 3lb 8oz safely returned using a size 12 daiwl bach. Bert Nelson (Carluke) weighed in 1 rainbow for 2lb 10oz using a floating line with a size 12 segmented daddy. Alan McLaren (Stenhousemuir) managed to catch two rainbows for 4lb 10oz on the surface using a size 14 Kate McLaren. Alan Meek (Cambuslang) landed and returned a nice blue on the F/Fly size 16. Eck Mulhorlick (Oakley) returned 3 rainbows fishing black shipmans size 16. We also had a visit from the Bathgate British Legion who caught 8 fish in total weighing in at 18lb. That’s all for now. 17th of July 2019

Summer at last, daytime temperatures were into the mid-twenties most days resulting is some slower moving fish but plenty of activity early morning and evenings with excellent dry fly sport. John Dunloph (Coatbridge) managed to catch and safely return 1 fish using a Cruncher. Derek Leaper (Hallglen) took home 1 rainbow at 2lb 3oz using various dry flies. Allan McLaren (Larbert) also took home a stockie at 2lb 6oz. William McCracken (Camelon) had a great time on the water as he hooked 2 blues weighing in at 5lb 4 oz before going on to catch 7 and safely return them to the Lochan all on a F-k up. John Hunter (Alloa) hooked 11 fish all on a C/R ticket using a Yellow Dancer & Invicta. Roger Deary (Bonnybridge) caught 10 also on a C/R ticket using a Yellow Dancer and a Dry Spider. Alex Campbell (Moodiesburn) took home 2 rainbows weighing in at 5lb 10oz also using a Yellow Dancer. Brain McGregor (Falkirk) took home 2 trout at 5lb 8oz using a Hot Head Damsel. Tom McComack caught 1 blue at 2lb 4oz using a Blob. Eck Mulhotlick (Oakley) hooked 4 trout on a C/R Ticket using a Foam Daddy. 9th of July 2019

Another mixed bag this week with cool mornings and the air temperature hitting the high teens in the afternoon. The water temperature has maintained a steady 16oC with the bright skies pushing the fish down to the bottom of the lochan during the day. Emergers Buzzers and dry flies were doing the job for most anglers this week. Archie Dobbie (Glasgow) returned 2 blues on a C/R ticket fishing on an Oky Doky. Eck Mulhotlick (Oakley) hooked 5 fish on a cruncher. Ian McLaren (Stirling) landed 1 for 3lb 6oz fishing with a hot head damsel. John Fleming (Sheildhill) landed and safely returned 6 rainbows fishing with Olive Sader and Red Cormorant. Derek Leaper (Hallglen) weighed in 2 blues for 7lb 4oz using a floating line and cruncher. Alex Morton (Blackburn) returned 2 rainbow fishing on an orange fab. Davey McGuinness used a foam daddy and managed to catch and returned 3 blues and 4 rainbows. Gary has been working hard all week, all the casting platforms are now free from summer weed so fish can be easily netted or released.
