Weekly Report – 26th Jan

Weather a bit more settled this week, still has been on the breezy side and the water temp is 7c. The fish are still showing on the surface, Blob’s Red and Orange seem to be doing the trick!
Ian McLaren (Stirling) returned 2 Rainbows fishing a size 10 Y/Dancer. Russel Breghton (Banton) Weighed in 2 Rainbows for 5lb 8oz, fishing a Sink Tip and neon Daiwl Bach. Ben Kelly (Glasgow) returned 2 safely back into the water, fishing Orange Blob Davy McGuinness (Larkhall) returned 16 fish fishing a Red Blob on the point Orange on Dropper both produced fish. John Fleming (Shieldhill) returned 4 fish intermediate on Daiwl Bach, first visit for Mark Anthony (Gargunnock) weighed in a lovely bow for 7lb 2oz.

Weekly Report 20th Jan

After a nasty week of horizontal rain and high winds, the weekend was a bit more settled. Rob Jack (Stirling) landed 4 Blues fishing Orange blob & Y/Blood-worm, all were returned safely.
Russell Dickson returned 8 Rainbows fishing a FAB, Mick Baxter weighed in 2 Rainbows for 5lb 8oz, and went on to return another 12 fish which were caught on a Fruit Salad.
Davie McGuinness (Larkhall) returned 14 on a sporting ticket with a Tequila Blob. Scott Laird (Cumbernauld) weighed in 2 Rainbows for 5lb 6oz, fishing FAB & Oky Doky.
Geoff Appleton (Falkirk) returned 4 Rainbows fishing Black Spider and Appetiser. Eddie Hunt (Cumbernauld) weighed in 2 Blues for 5lb 8oz.

15th December 2019

After a horrible week , howling winds, driving rain, some anglers battled against the elements. Those who did had some cracking results.
The Neptune angling club Faslane fished on Saturday, Stephen Salmon managed 4 Rainbow’s for 11lb 8oz fishing various lures. Stuart Hampson had 5 Rainbows on “Yellow Dancer”, Joe France landed 4, 2 blues & 2 Rainbows for 10lb 4oz on a “Tequila Blob”.
Ted Hall weighed in 4 Rainbows for 11lb fishing “c|whisker” and “Yellow Dancer”. Michael Palmer had 4 for 11lb 8oz on “c|whisker” and Harry Harrison weighed in 4 for 13lb 10oz fishing a “Budgie Orange Fritz”.
Alex Morton (Blackburn) 2 for 5lb 4oz on “Oky Doky”, Eddie Hunt (Cumbernauld) managed 2 for 5lb 4oz and Cameron Cowan (Bannockburn) weighed in two for 5lb 4oz. He then went on to release another 9 back into the water.
Despite the dreich weather we are open 7 days a week, water temp is sitting at 7oc.
We are closed on the 25th December 2019 and the 1st January 2020

27th of November 2019

After a bitterly cold week, with temperatures in the minus, the Lochan has been frozen over most of the week. Sunday was the first day we had with no ice in the water and the water temperature was 7 degrees. Allan McLaren (Stenhousemuir) weighed in 1 rainbow for 2lb 8oz fishing on an intermediate line and a size 10 muddler. Geof Appleton (Falkirk) landed and safely returned a nice brown trout fishing on an orange blob. John Hollerby (Bo’ness) landed and returned 2 blues on a yellow dancer. 18th of November 2019

It has been a very cold week with frost in the morning and bright sunny afternoons. It’s not been the best conditions for our anglers however there has still been some good catches despite this. Water temperature is now down to 7 degrees.
Ross Martin (Bannockburn) landed 3 trout before he safely returned them, all were caught on a cut throat cat. Ian McLaren (Stirling) returned 2 blues on a yellow dancer. Eddie Hunt (Cumbernauld) weighed in 2 rainbows for 5lb 10oz both were caught on a cat’s whisker. Cammy MacFarlane (Denny) on a c/r ticket landed and returned 1 rainbow fishing on a Daiwl Bach. Davey MaGuinness (Larkhall) managed an impressive 17 fish using a floating line and a lime green blob.

12th of November 2019

After a horrible start to the week the weather settled with a cold north easterly breeze and the water temperature falling to 8 degree. Those who braved the cold managed to get in some nice catches. Benn Kelly (Glasgow) returned 5 rainbows fishing on a yellow dancer. Derick Leaper (Hallglen) weighed in 2 blues for 6lb 3oz, he was fishing on an Ally McCoist and Yellow Dancer. The Royal British Legion from Cumbernauld fished on Saturday. It was a bitterly cold day however the guys managed to take home 22 trout weighing in at 29lb 4oz overall. Hot headed damsels and dancers seemed to bring our anglers the most success. John Fleming (Shieldhill) managed 2 blues for 4lb 10oz fishing with Hares Ear. Davey MaGuinness (Larkhall) landed and safely returned 14 trout and took 1 home weighing in at 5lb. Alister Crockett (Wishaw) weighed in 2 for 5lb 8oz fishing on a Whisky fly. 6th of November

Our week began with bright mornings, and a bit chilly with a hard frost. However, this changed mid-way through the week as the weather turned nasty with torrential rain. The water temperature is currently sitting at 9 degrees. It’s been a mixed back here at the fishery with many catches taking place on the surface and on lures.
John Shand took home 1 blue using a cats whisker. Ann Marie Hodgson on a sporting ticket caught and released 1 rainbow on a Kate McLaren. Ian McLaren (St Ninians) also on a sporting ticket caught 4 before safely releasing them. He caught these using a yellow dancer. Mr McGowan (Armadale) had a great day at the fishery as he caught and released 5 fish on an Egg Peach. Mr Wheaver (Hardhield) caught 3 using a Kate McLaren and a Foam Daddy. Mr Boyd (Hardhield) also caught 3 trout using a walats it. Mr Addison (Salsbury) on a sporting ticket caught and released 6 trout using an Egg peach. Mr Snesdon (Salsbury) caught 1 rainbow on a Kate McLaren. J. McDonald (Bonnybridge) managed 2 blues on a yellow dancer. Jim McAllum (Brightons) was able to catch 2 on a C/R ticket using black and orange buzzers. John Currie (Camelon) took home 1 blue at 2lb 8oz using a Oky Doky. John Fleming (Shieldhill) managed 2 for 5lb 8oz using a Daiwl Bach. Alan McLaren (Stenhousemuir) took home 2 rainbows at 5lb 6oz using a wok nymph. Derick Leaper (Hallglen) also managed to take home 2 fish also using a wok nymph. Fraser McGilluary (Kirkintilloch) caught and released 2 trout fishing on a floating beetle. Billy McPherson (Falkirk) took home 2 blues at 5lb 2oz and also released 2. He was fishing on a Yellow Blob.

29th of October 2019

After a very wet start to the week the weather has improved with bright skies and a north westerly wind. The water temperature is currently down to 10 degrees. Ian Crawford (Denny) returned 2 blues fishing using a floating line and an Olyve Elk Hair emerger. Ross Martin (Bannockburn) returned 5 rainbows fishing on a cut throat cat. Davy MaGuinness (Larkhall) safely returned 9 rainbows on an intermediate line orange blob. Howard Penny (Cumbernauld) managed 6 fishing on a black shipmans and floating beetle. Eddie Hunt (Cumbernauld) weighed in 2 blues for 5lb 14oz fishing on a green nomad. Alan McLaren (Stenhousemuir) weighed in 1 rainbow for 3lb 8oz fishing on a muddler. Jim Ballantyne (Bonnybridge) weighed in 1 blue for 2lb 8oz on a cat’s whisker. Alan Haistie (Airdrie) returned 2 rainbows fishing using a Hopper. Jim Brown (Bannockburn) weighed in 2 rainbows at 5lb 3oz fishing on a ginger palmer. John Fleming (Shieldhill) managed 2 for 5lb 8oz using a black and copper cruncher. We had the Fire brigade here on Friday for a club booking, they landed 20 fish however dropped or lost a lot more. 9th of October 2019

It’s been a lovely dry start to the week with the first frost of the year and the nights are now drawing in quickly. However, plenty of fish being caught with the water temperature now down to 12 degrees. Brian Leadbetter (Slamannan) took home 2 blues for 5lb 4oz on a hot head damsel. Andrew Leadbetter (Slamannan) caught 1 Rainbow for 3lb while fishing on an Ally McCoist. Willy Carr (Cumbernauld) managed 5 rainbows fishing with a Griffiths Gnat. Jim Loudon (Milngavie) caught 1 blue for 3lb 7oz on a Damsel. Alan McLaren (Stenhousemuir) weighed in 1 rainbow for 4lb 8oz fishing on an orange blob. George Houston (Kincardine) weighed 1 rainbow for 4lb on Kate McLaren. Willy McAlister (Springboig) caught 2 fish for 4lb 8oz fishing on a hot head damsel. Pete Mogford (Dunfermline) took home 1 cracking blue 3lb 4oz on a buzzer. Alan Downie (Boness) on sporting ticket returned 2 safely on a foam beetle. Ian Donn (Bonnybridge) also returned 2 fish again on a foam beetle. Ben Kelly (Glasgow) returned 2 rainbows on squirmy worm. Eddie Hunt (Cumbernauld) weighed in 2 fish for 5lb 4oz fishing on an orange blob. Saturday the 5th of October was MMM Joinery Pairs competition. Overall winners were George Douglas and son with 15lb 1oz. Second place went to G. McCaw and N. Barron. Third place was P. Price and J. McRae. The Guys had a good day with a full game BBQ for lunch. 18th of September 2019

After a very wet and windy start to the week, the weather has settled well with the water temperature dropping to 14 degrees. The Lochan has proved its worth with some good catches from our anglers. Davey McGuinness (Larkhall) on a sporting ticket landed and safely returned 27 fish using an intermediate line with a size 10 orange blob. Billy Miller (Denny) returned 6 blues fishing with a size 16 parachute fly. Mark Love (Airdrie) returned 3 blues fishing with a floating line long leader and a size 10 ace of spades. John Gould (Bellshill) returned 5 rainbows using a size 16 orange shipmans again using floating lines. Ben Kelly (Glasgow) weighed in two blues for 6lb fishing on a cruncher. Alan Dowie (Grangemouth) landed 3 blues on size 16 Griffiths Gnat. Alan Smith (Cumbernauld) returned 2 blues fishing on Daddies. Callan Stewart (Denny) weighed in 2 blues for 5lb 12oz fishing on a black dancer. Geoff Appleton (Falkirk) returned 2 rainbows fishing on a black spider. Alan Meek (Cambuslang) returned 2 fishing with a size 16 Black Klinken hammer. Alex Morton (Whitburn) weighed in 3 fish for 8lb 4oz fishing on an orange nomad.
