Friday 07/01/2022 – Friday 14/01/2022

We are still experiencing very mild weather for this time of the year, for the majority of the week the fish have continued to sit higher in the water. We have seen all sorts of weather this week, from bitterly cold strong winds and heavy rain to beautiful flat calms and sunshine that would almost make you believe it was late spring! This produced returns that were varied throughout the week, and the successful methods changed from day to day.

We were delighted to welcome so many new anglers to the water this week and watch as they enjoyed their day, leaving full of praises and an eagerness to return!

This week was the first round of the winter Quaich competition between Newhouse, High Cleughearn, Bangour and Burnhouse. A competition that Steven McGowan from Newhouse Fishery has been organising for a number of years. We were excited to be asked to join in on this little bit of winter fun! You can see how our team got on after the catch report!

A massive well done to all of the participants from the 4 fisheries that took part in the 1st round of the quaich which took place at High Cleughearn fishery! The conditions were horrific with strong winds and relentless freezing cold rain! The fishery is very exposed, so the anglers had no shelter in such hard conditions, but they were determined to bring home a good result for their fisheries and battled on right till the end, making the managers very proud! Despite the weather it was a brilliant day, the hospitality exceptional and not only did the anglers all bring their A games with them but also their sense of humour! The day was full of fun and laughter!

A total of 132 fish were caught with a rod average of 6.6, incredible given the challenging conditions and a brilliant start to the competition.
