Friday 29/10/2021 – Friday 05/11/2021

WHAT A WEEK! There has been quite a variation in the weather this week from frosty mornings and flat calms to unseasonably mild temperatures, severe flooding, and gale force winds. For the majority of the week the fishing was exceptional, the fish feeding up heavily for the winter months, it appeared as if anglers could do nothing wrong and they were having some of the best sport they have ever experienced, we even witnessed a new fishery record! Other days the anglers had to work a little harder to find the right depth, but once they did those great returns were once again achieved.

A massive well done to Kevin Jenkinson who has the new fishery record for most fish caught, this now stands at 41 fish! I wonder how long it will take to beat that!

FISH OF THE WEEK –  This weeks top spot goes to DAVID FISHER with a 10.5lb rainbow. Well done, David, you are the first winner of our winter big fish competition! Your free all-day c&r ticket and scrumptious steak pie awaits you!

FLIES OF THE WEEK – This weeks top 3 flies were BUZZERS, ORANGE LURES and DAIWL BACHS .

Other successful flies were mop flies, fry poppers, fabs, shimmy worms, pin fry imitations, yellow owls, dinky, blobs, eggs, suspended buzzers, yellow dancer, ptn, cormorants, hoppers, spiders, various dries, grub imitations, damsels, Ally McCoist, viva, humongous, pink lure, cats whiskers, squirmy, zonkers, eggstacy worms and bunny leach.

CATCH REPORT

  • PAUL PRICE & JIM MCINTYRE – What can I say about these 2……. it’s never a dull day when they are on the water! The day started out like it usually does, 2 mates having a good laugh and catching plenty fish between them, what happened next was comedy gold! Jim hooked into fish number 7 to draw with Paul. Paul gets up to cast but doesn’t notice the chair has moved to the side slightly, 2 legs are now balancing on the side of the podium, he sits back down, and the chair tipped him in the water. He makes his way to the side, but is buckled over, when May asked Jim (who is still playing fish number 7) if Paul is ok, he replies, whilst laughing “aye he’s fine” When Paul still didn’t get up May made her way over to him to see if he was ok, thankfully it wasn’t the heart attack it looked like! He had hurt his ribs. Then a fish took his fly that was still in the water, his rod shot off the platform and May jumped in to get it before it disappeared, all while Jim is still playing fish number 7! May gets back onto the platform and keeps playing the fish whist on her back trying to get the freezing cold water out her boots and when Paul had recovered, he landed fish number 8! It must be such a relief for Paul to know that Jim will always look after him in an emergency, unless he has a fish on! PAUL PRICE – 8 fish using orange and green mop flies, JIM MCINTYRE – 7 fish using a green & white mop fly.

 SAFE CATCH AND RELEASE PROCEDURE

  • Only use single, barbless hooks. Strictly no multiple hook snakes, double or treble hooks. Not just for catch and release but for kill tickets too.
  • Due to the size and strength of our fish we ask that ALL anglers use a minimum of 8lb line, this is to reduce the number of fish being lost and over played.
  • Bring the fish to the net as quickly as possible. Over playing a fish causes stress and exhaustion and decreases the chance of survival.
  • Unhook the fish as quickly as possible, keep the fish in the water. Never bring the fish onto the banking or podiums as this removes the protective slime, increasing the chances of infections and diseases.
  • If you have to handle the fish do so with wet hands, never with gloves on, this avoids removing the protective slime.
  • If the hook is too deep to be removed, cut the line as close to the hook as possible.
  • Avoid squeezing the fish as this can cause damage to internal organs.
  • Take time to recover the fish, be patient as this can take some time especially in warmer weather. Support it gently until the fish is strong enough to swim away from you.

If you are struggling to recover a fish please call the bailiff for assistance, the decision to kill any fish whilst on catch and release must only be made by the bailiff.

Thank you to all of the anglers this week, we look forward to seeing you again!

TIGHT LINES FOR THE WEEK AHEAD!
