Hi all, unfortunately thanks to the weather, the Lochan is frozen over. Will keep you all posted daily with the weekend looming up.

Fishing on the lochan has been quite challenging this week, however, our keen fisherman have still managed some good bags. Over the past couple of weeks, the water temperature has dropped from 16°C to 12° and the fish have started to chase fry patterns early in the morning with plenty of fish coming up to the surface for feeding. After 10am, with the rising sun and flat calm, the fish are moving further down into the water, but many of our regular anglers are still catching fish by adjusting their techniques.

Our weather prediction could not have been more wrong for this week but never mind! The wind that blew in from the east switched to a gentle westerly breeze and despite the fish being confused by the weather they are still coming up on the surface with most of them sitting about 12” under the surface and some good results seen by our visitors.

After another week of unsettled weather, the fishery is still producing some good results. The water temperature has dropped to 15°C after some much needed rain, and the wind direction has varied throughout the week but it has mostly come in from the south east which is not the most favourable. Daddies are hatching and some sedge, with fish taking just below the surface and not lying very deep in the water.

The weather this past week has again been unpredictable but there has still been plenty of surface activity with a wide variety of lures being used to attract them.

After a small time away we are back with our weekly fishery reports from Burnhouse. The weather has been up and down throughout Scotland for the past few weeks, as it always is, and the weather hasn’t been great during August but our fisherman are still getting some good catches.

The weather has been a little unsettled over the last week, from muggy to monsoon. However, the fishing has been excellent on the surface, with plenty of fly hatches giving anglers some great sport.

After a week of very mixed weather, we’ve had some cracking sport at the Lochan with lots of surface feeding activity from the fish, taking dries and buzzers and some still being caught with lures. The water temperature is sitting at 16°C but what a difference with the wind now swinging in a westerly direction!

After another glorious week of weather, some rain finally arrived, giving the fish cooler water which has produced some cracking top of the water sport. The water temperature ranged from 15-17°C, with gentle breezes coming in from the east.

After a rather unsettled and cool week, the fish have been feeding prolifically on the surface in the early morning and later in the evening with has given our anglers some good results. Griffiths Gnat and Grey Duster size 18 are still producing good bags, and the water temperature is sitting at 14°C. Despite the cold easterly wind that has been present at the Lochan throughout the week, our anglers have still managed some good catches.

We’ve had fresh mornings, with lovely sunshine but still a cool wind from the east for most of the week. We’ve welcomed some new additions to the Lochan with our resident Canadian geese and three lovely goslings. There is plenty of surface activity with fish feeding freely on the surface, but as the sun gets higher it tends to push them down. Floating lines seem to be doing well early in the morning and late in the evening and the intermediate or midge tip seems to be the best option when the sun is at its highest. Despite the bright conditions, some good catches have been managed.

Burnhouse Lochan has had another week of cold easterly winds with a little rain, however mostly dry, with the water temperature rising a couple of degrees to 11°C. Hatches of Black Sedge coming off the water are allowing the fish to feed freely on the surface and some stone fly on the top of the water as well is giving some good sport. We’ve also had a couple of visits from Osprey over the week which is been a great sight to see.

We’ve had a week of horrible weather with a cold north easterly wind driving rain and frost our way, however, the Lochan has still produced some good sport for those who braved the elements.

The weather left a lot to be desired this week again, with bitter winds and even some ice on the Lochan. However, despite the poor conditions the Lochan, as always, still gave some great results with a few visits from the Osprey and the first Swallows of the year.

We’ve had another dry week at the Fishery, but there was still a cool easterly breeze present to challenge our anglers. On Sunday, Burnhouse hosted the Royal British Legion area fish-off between Bridge of Weir and Cumbernauld.

After a more settled week with the weather, the Lochan provided our anglers with some excellent fishing and Monday morning began with glorious sunshine and not a cloud in sight.

Our fishing began on Thursday morning with a gentle westerly breeze, a few clouds in the sky and some very active fish. John Smith (Cumbernauld) who is a first time visitor to the Lochan, managed to hook into and land two cracking rainbows weighing in at 6lb 2oz, using a floating line slow retrieve with a Yellow Dancer and an Ace of Spades. The afternoon settled, the wind dropped and the water resembled a mill pond with a flat calm. Regular angler, Alan Smith (Cumbernauld) fished a sight indicator and Red Apps Bloodworm Size 12 longshank hook about 3 feet under the surface with a very slow retrieve – Alan landed and safely returned 5 rainbow trout on barbless hooks.

After another horrid week of rain and wind the weather settles a little over the weekend. On Saturday the bitter cold wind was blowing to the West and there was a light drizzle and some bold anglers still visited Burnhouse and braved these elements.

It’s the 1st November and standing in short sleeves, Halloween has been and gone and our water temperature is still averaging 11°C. Fish are starting to chase fry, plentiful pin fry in the water but some fish are still taking from the surface. What a crazy year for weather! Some really good catches.

After another fine week of weather and really cool nights, the water temperature is slowly dropping to 11°C and a little bit murky due to a lack of fresh water. The lochan has still produced some really good bags.

The cooler nights and overcast days have brought the water temperature down to 12°C. There is lots of surface activity with the trout starting to chase fly. The Stag are bellowing away in the background and although fishing is proving to be challenging, there have still been some good catches. The Fishery is now closed on a Monday. Tuesday and a Wednesday, but WE ARE OPEN THURS, FRI, SAT & SUN.

Another glorious week, but the Fishery still came up trumps. Bright skies and easterly winds are the worst conditions for us but what’s the point in complaining? We all know how difficult it is. The early morning seems to produce good results, as well as the last few hours in the evening. However, there were also some cracking results in the daytime as well.

What a glorious start to September we’ve had! With cooler nights and fantastic sunny days, that are great for sun bathing but makes fishing that wee bit more difficult. However, there have still been some good catches over the past week and with a water temperature sitting at 15°C and the bright sun has been encouraging the fish to lie in the deeper water.

After another week of temperatures averaging at 16°C. Extra stocking for the cooler autumn water has now been actioned with some really nice double figure Rainbows and a few hard fighting Blue Trout. A lovely Tiger Trout was released last weekend, it was in cracking condition.

Despite the weather this week, the Fishery is still giving some good bags with the water sitting at 16°, the easterly winds and bright sunshine. There has been plenty of surface activity with fish taking various dries and the odd lure.
